What is happiness? By definition, happiness means feeling or showing pleasure or contentment.

But this feeling of pleasure, of contentment, comes from different things for different people. Each of us has different passions, different objectives, different goals in life. And these are the driving forces that determine what makes each of us happy.

Happiness for me

Happiness is nothing more than good health and a bad memory.

This was not something that was always my definition of happiness. But over the years, different experiences and interactions make me truly believe this.

Healthy body

Most of us have had occasions where we would have neglected looking after ourselves. Not exercising, junking or eating out often and not sleeping enough. I too have had several such phases where I neglected my health. And during these instances, I remember how it would start with weight gain, reduced energy, reduced endurance and eventually lead to mood swings, lethargy and excessive junking. All of which are “happiness suckers”

We must all consciously take care of our bodies, after all, it is the only place we have, to live in. But a healthy body does not only mean a superb figure or a chiseled and muscled body. It is in fact much more than that. I believe, the key to being able to achieve this is discipline – Eating right, taking time to exercise, sleeping on time, avoiding needless medication and going for periodic checkups. All these combined together with discipline will help you keep your body healthy.

Healthy mind

Apart from a healthy body, you need to have a healthy mind. And that might be slightly more difficult to achieve. Since this involves a change in thinking, change in mindset. And the first step to this is recognizing those emotions or thoughts that affect you and then forgetting them – Here is where the bad memory comes in. Forget your grudges, the bad experiences, the difficult times – and that’s not easy, but letting go and starting a new chapter, a fresh page is what is going to help in having a healthier mind, and a happier you.

Healthy family

This for me is the third aspect of happiness. If your near and dear ones – family and friends are in a good space, healthy and happy – that ultimately translates to your own happiness. Think of the time when your parent, friend or child is unwell. It could be something as simple as a viral or stomach ache. You are worried and do everything possible to make sure they are comfortable. That is the effect your family and close friends have on you and thus their health and happiness are what makes you happy.

This is my definition of happiness – A combination of a healthy body, healthy mind and healthy and happy family and friends together is what makes me happy.

This post is written as a part of the “Happiness blog train” presented by Blogsikka and Momsmethods and sponsored by “Nayasa”. Nayasa has come up with a new range of bottles. This range of bottles are insulated, they maintain the liquid’s temperature inside the bottle either hot or cold. The new designs are practical and aesthetic. From holding in palms to the cap, everything is designed carefully.

I would like to thank Sneha – a traveler mom who writes a wonderful blog – Blogsikka, for starting this train and introducing me.

The next station in this train is RainbowDiaries by Shubhada. Shubhada a mom to 2 wonderful kids, wife to a very supportive hubby, an IT professional, and a multitasker. This multitasking ability makes her write RainbowDiaries – Parenting, Lifestyle, and Food blog site. Over to you

  1. Well said Healthy Mind, Body, Family, and Friends is the key to happiness 🙂
Loved this post! I am sure people who ignore their health would surely start taking it seriously after reading this one.

  2. You are correct, even if one person is unhappy in the family it spreads a pall of gloom on every member of the family. It is important that each member of the family be happy if it has to be a happy home. And of course, as you say our bodies in which we live also have to be taken care of well. Good article

  3. There is a saying— “If momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy.” It is so important to your family (and friends and co-workers, but mostly yourself) to stay healthy. In today’s busy world, it is difficult to keep this practice, but there is much to gain by taking care of yourself.
    All the best to you.

  4. Such a nice thought that a bad memory may also give happiness to many. It’s better to forget and move on than to remember and linger on in the past

  5. Loved reading this blog of yours! so true that a bad memory and a healthy routine keeps happiness coming to us in all means and forever!
