Did you know one of the most common birthday gifts moms receive is “me” time at the Spa/Parlour? 
 
This sure is a perfect gift since so many of us somehow forget about pampering ourselves and caring for our body and skin. Blame it on our busy schedules or juggling between the kids responsibilities, home chores, work and every other thing that is on our plate.
 
Skin with an even tone with that supple glow post a facial is something that makes everyone feel good. But these hour long facials become difficult to indulge in very frequently and skin care is something that always is neglected. But a healthy skin is actually just a kitchen away!

Here are a few face masks and tips with ingredients easily available in your kitchen. Include these in your routine and you wont need wait for parlour or spa visits for that healthy glow.

 

Strawberry face pack

Ingredients: Strawberry, Fresh cream(dry skin) or curd (oily skin), honey, lime

Method : Blend one strawberry with a teaspoon of fresh cream or yogurt depending on your skin type. Add to this a tsp of honey and few drops of lemon and mix well. Using your fingers or a flat brush apply this mask evenly on your face and neck. Keep for 15 mins and wash. Use this once or twice a week at least for maximum benefit.

Benefits :

  • Strawberries have antioxidant and astringent properties which help in slowing down the ageing process.
  • Being anti inflammatory, they soothe the skin. Also they provide a good protection against UV rays.
  • Strawberries have a high content of salicylic acid whic helps against acne and blemishes. This helps in achieving even tone on the skin. Omega 3 fatty acids in the strawberries help to lighten skin tone and reduce dark circles
 

Almond face pack

Ingredients : Almonds, turmeric, sandalwood powder, honey, rosewater, milk.

Method : Make a powder with 25 almonds, 1 tsp turmeric and  ½ tsp sandalwood powder. Now take one tbsp of this powder, to this add few drops of honey and milk, and add rosewater to make a paste. For those with oily skin can skip the milk. Using your fingers or a flat brush apply this mask evenly on your face and neck. Keep this on till the pack dries. While washing scrub in circular motions while using some water or milk. This acts as a scrub too and will help ex-foliate the dead skin cells too. Finally rinse it off with water.

  • Almond contains vitamin E which have properties to cure age spots, acne, fine lines
  • The powder being coarse and the method used to remove the pack acts as a face scrub and can be used to remove dead skin cells from your skin. This helps to add shine to your face by giving a refreshing and younger look.
  • Antiseptic and antibacterial properties of turmeric helps in prevention of pimples and breakouts. It also helps in reducing fine lines as well as in case of inflammation of the skin due to over exposure to the sun
  • Sandalwood helps in getting an even skin tone by removing acne marks and blemishes. It also helps to reduce skin tanning.

Couple of easy inclusions to the diet for healthy skin

Hazel nuts and Almonds
Hazel nuts are loaded with Vitamin E which has anti aging properties. Vitamin E prevent early onset of wrinkles.  Almonds too provide the same benefits. Include atleast 5 hazelnuts or almonds in your diet and see the difference.

Beetroot

Beetroot for skin

Beetroot juice consumed on a regular basis helps to reduce acne an pimples which are caused due to impurities in the blood. You can also add beetroot while making tomato or carrot soup in case you are not too fond of beetroot . I use this cheat at home very often and no one even knows that beetroot is being consumed  J
