Every time we see our flag, swaying on some building, or during flag hoisting ceremonies, or even in the theatres before the movie we are filled with a sense of pride. Colors are very closely connected to our emotions.

“Morning Blues”, “Green with envy”, “Purple with rage”, “Pink of health”

We often use colors to describe how we are feeling as well.  Also while dressing up, we tend to wear vibrant colors like red, yellow, orange when we are really happy, and choose the dull grays when we are not so happy. It is a known fact that colors do affect one’s feelings, moods and emotions. But a not so known fact is that colors can be used for healing the body too based on their electrical and heating properties. Some colors actually cool and soothe the nerves (e.g. dark-violet, indigo etc) while some can excite or heat the blood (e.g. red-orange or dark red etc).

Here are some therapeutic benefits of the colors of our national flag

Orange

Orange is a warm and cheering color. It has a freeing action upon the mind and body. This color brings energy, celebration and great abundance, comfort, and enjoyment of the senses

Orange stimulates the lungs, the respiration, and the digestion. Increases the activity of the thyroid. Relieves muscle cramps and spasms. Increases the amount of mother milk. It is helpful for slow pulse rate, hernia and kidney and gall bladder stones.

White

White is a mixture of all colors and is thus a perfect for perfect balance and harmony.  It signifies innocence, purity, cleanliness, freshness, simplicity, oneness and completion.

Directing white into to a part of the body that needs healing is one of the fastest ways to bring about healing. White (light or color) can be used as a replacement for any other color and will provide the same effect.

Green

Green is the color of nature. It possesses a soothing influence upon both mind and body.  This color provides psychological and emotional harmony and balance.

Green is a mild sedative and normalizes and strengthens nerve function. It also strengthens eyesight. It cures hormonal imbalances and stimulates growth hormone and rejuvenation. This color increases immunity, builds up muscles, bones, and tissues. It helps in digestion as well as has a healing effect on kidneys.

Blue

Blue is cooling color and one of the greatest antiseptics. It is a color of peace and tranquility, calmness, truth, understanding, patience, loyalty and honor, a sense of order, logic and rational thinking.

Blue cools down inflammations, fever, high blood pressure. It provides relief from the headaches, calms strong emotions like anger, aggression or hysteria. Blue color can be used for any type of ailments associated with speech, communication. It is also helpful as an anesthetic for minor operations like tooth extractions. It is good for skin diseases, malnutrition, old ulcers, fertile conditions, asthma, profuse menstrual flow, insomnia, dysentery, and colic.

Having this theoretic knowledge is good but we also need to understand practical implementations of Chromotherapy. Only then will we be able to reap the benefits of it.

Using color charged oils and water are one of the ways to make use of benefits of light. Follow the detailed process of preparing color charged water and oils.

Some practical ways to use chromotherapy

  • My younger daughter was born in April. The heat coupled with humidity often caused her skin to have redness and prickly heat. Using blue charged coconut oil was very effective to gently massage her.
  • Green color is very good for the eyes. Remember our grannies telling us how good it is for our eyes to walk barefoot on the morning dew on the grass. Using green charged water as an eye wash is also very beneficial to cool the eyes. The cool green cucumbers kept on the eyes soothes them so much. Green leafy vegetables are also very good for the eyes.
  • Wearing clothes of a particular color whose benefits you want to achieve, using food of that color are also ways to reap benefits of those colors
  • For other serious ailments, there is a special chromotherapy equipment which filters light and exposes those areas of your body that need a particular color treatment

The point to remember concerning color therapy -is that complete healing generally comes about through some type of internal transformation. Heal the mind and the body will, surely, follow suit.
